Select the country and object's type White Sands International Film Festival Announces Awards

Las Cruces, N.M. - There were plenty of films shown at the White Sands International Film Festival, and six were chosen as the best in their respective categories.

The winners were: Best Student Short, Fiasco, Best Narrative Short, The Encounter, Best Documentary, Run to the East, Best Directing, Justin Lerner, Girlfriend, Audience Choice Award, Strings, and the Grand Jury Award went to Girlfriend.

The film festival saw the premiere of the film \"Refuge,\" written and directed by Tony Award winner and Las Cruces resident Mark Medoff. \"Refuge\" star Linda Hamilton was on hand to kick off the festival at the premiere.

Vereran film actor Val Kilmer was also present to receive the WSIFF Lifetime Achievement Award. Kilmer has appeared in more than 50 films including \"Top Gun,\" \"The Doors,\" \"Willow,\" \"Thunderheart,\"and\"Batman Forever.\"

The WSIFF was a success, featuring acting and filmmaking workshops, and VIP parties, as well as a full schedule of films and documentaries. Next year\'s WSIFF is set to run from Aug. 22-26, 2012.
