Las Cruces, N.M. - Las Cruces artist Melanie Stone Jack will have her work featured for the month of August at the Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Jack is a member of the Black Range Artists, Inc. and the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter. She has worked in oil, pastel and acrylic, but watercolor is her favorite medium.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Jack is the granddaughter of a prominent Texas artist. She was given lessons in color and drawing at a very young age but was more interested in music as a young woman. She majored in music in college.

Jack began painting seriously in 2006, and has since taken several workshops. She has paintings in collections in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona, Missouri and New Mexico.

Jack's work has been shown in Las Cruces at the Branigan Cultural Center, the Rio Grande Theatre Galleries, the Farm and Ranch Museum, and the Tombaugh Gallery. Her work has been shown at The Adobe Café, Le Rendezvous Café and Unravel as alternative sites. She has also shown work in Deming and at the JW Art Gallery in Hurley.
