The artwork of Carolyn Williams fills the Merkle and Price Galleries during Quilted History, Aug. 2-30 in El Dorado. The free exhibition, located at 110 E 5th Street, is an exploration of Americana through the art of quilting. If you love watermelons Hope is the place to be Aug. 11-13 for the 35th annual Hope Watermelon Festival. The event, which is at Fair Park, has attractions for the whole family including arts and crafts, food, live music, gospel singing, a politically correct watermelon eating contest, a seed spitting contest, the giant watermelon n, an antique car show, a motorcycle show and more. Enjoy an evening at Historic Washington State Park listening to live jazz music Aug. 20 in Washington during Music in the Park: An Evening of American Music. During the event hear local and upcoming jazz performers on the lawn of the 1874 Courthouse. Remember to bring your own lawn chair. In case of inclement weather activities will be moved to inside the 1874 Courthouse. Williams’ Tavern Restaurant and the 1874 Courthouse Gift Shop are also open for those that wish to enjoy an evening meal or shop before the event. Aug. 20-27 hosts the Nevada County Fair in Prescott at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The fair kicks off with a parade downtown.
