Last fall, RDÉE Yukon commissioned a team of consultants to do a feasibility study on two Yukon Francophone cultural tourism products. The results of this study were presented on May 24 and 26 to partners and entrepreneurs, both Francophone and Anglophone. The purpose of these presentations was to hear their views about the proposed products and capture their interest in possible partnerships.
The team of consultants consisting of Christiane Boisjoly, Luigi Zanasi and Sylvie Binette studied the feasibility of developing two Yukon Francophone cultural tourism products. Following consultations and meetings with various tourism industry stakeholders, criteria were established for proposing tourism products that target a Francophone market.
The products chosen were:
- A package including an adventure experience followed by a meal with Yukon Francophones;
- A varied tour including a Francophone-themed tour of Whitehorse, a discovery activity on the Klondike Highway between Whitehorse and Dawson City, and a Francophone cultural activity in Dawson City.
The development of a Yukon Francophone inn and cultural centre was also evaluated, but on a smaller scale.
A summary of the presentations will provide all tourism industry stakeholders with information on the next steps to be taken and partnership opportunities.
To participate in future meetings or to obtain a copy of the summary or the full report of the feasibility study, contact Maud Caron.
