The 13th Edition of Carioquinha started on May 28, with discounts for true Cariocas and residents of the city. The program includes points of interest, tourist services, cultural attractions, hotels and restaurants which, up to June 30th, are offering various discounts. To get a discount people have to prove they are Carioca, by showing their ID at the ticket office, or in the case of residents, also showing proof of residence, such as a local utility bill. The objective of the program is to make citizens more aware of their city, more aware of the tourist potential of Rio de Janeiro, and thus valuing it more, and acting as a publicity agent for their own city.
Apart from the city’s picture postcard attractions, such as the Sugar Loaf and the Corcovado Train, both offering discounts of 50% for tickets that cost R$44,00 and R$36,00 respectively, the project offers a range of more than 60 other points and services that will allow the Carioca to get to know his/her city better, from all angles – walking the trails, diving the waters, aerial views by hang gliding, para-gliding, helicopters, cruising in schooners or launches, climbing the rocks and even jumping by parachute.
